Are you eating healthy--- Absolutraining Long Beach
What does it mean to eat healthy? Is Coco Puffs considered healthy because it is whole wheat? Are bran muffins better then regular? Let me help clarify what is healthy versus what says to be!
* For the purposes of this article we will be addressing different types of carbohydrates and comparing it to gradual and aggressive blood sugar (BSL) and insulin (INS) spiking.
Today's identification of "Healthy food" is completely SCREWED UP! If you want optimal health and want to look good in a bikini then you would want to keep your BSL in the "Happy Zone." To do this your CARBS should come from a ton of green leafy vegetables and some fruit. It's that simple! Consuming grains/refined carbs such as pasta, bread, tortillas, bagels, muffins, cereal, and sugary foods elevate your BSL way past optimal level--- now before you start to kick and scream just hear me out. Yes bran muffins, high fiber cereals, whole wheat carbs and such do carry valuable nutrients, but look at it in terms of raising blood sugar--- it goes UP! Some carbs cause a rapid release of BSL while a few others have a more slow progressive release. BUT regardless of the type of release eating grains/refined carbohydrates will spike your BSL over desired levels and when you eat "these types of carbs" as often as most of you do (cereal, sandwiches, burritos) your weight WILL GO UP!
* Grains/refined carbs (wheat, oats, bran, barely, millet) actually are far more damaging then just elevating BSL such as carrying anti-nutrients, poking holes in the G.I tract, are pro-inflammatory, induce food allergies and more. But we will save that for another day :)
So the question I ask then, if food (types of carbs) and it's influence on BSL plays a huge role in monitoring weight gain why would you consume "those" foods that put you at risk? The answer is you shouldn't! Yes I know a little here and there isn't going to hurt anyone or is it? Last time I checked there aren't a lot of fit people going to Starbucks ordering black coffee. Now matter where you go I guarantee you will see more over weight people then people that are fit and lean. Keep your BSL in check and in the Happy Zone. Do so by eating a ton green leafy vegetables and some fruit (very moderate). Cut out all high carb/high grain foods: whole wheat subs, bran muffins, steel cut oats, organic cookies, wheat tortillas, brown rice, etc... get my drift. This will not only make you lose weight but can save your life!
Now put down that whole wheat bagel and peanut butter spread and eat more greens!
