Myth Buster: Body cleansing for weight loss



Here's a myth buster. Using body cleansing solutions to lose weight.

I don't know how many times I hear people say "I'm gonna go on this cleansing diet," or " just drink this for a few days and don't eat." Well, women in particularly get caught up on this "cleansing" must do diet.

And usually the ones who are interested are doing it for all the wrong reasons. Every time I hear this I ask why and the typical response is to lose weight or to become healthy.

Every cleansing diet has a formula which include a few days of fasting, drinking a solution, and slowly incorporating calories when finished. Let's stick to these principles and see what happens.

1. Fasting- This is probably the worst thing that you can do. Depriving your body of calories sets you into starvation mode. This technique plays against your metabolism slowing down normal bodily processes. Thus hammering your digestive system, nutrient breakdown, immune system, energy readiness, etc...

2. Replacing food with a solution-
Coincides with fasting. Drinking a solution as your main source of fuel continues to weaken your body. Not getting adequate calories can reverse your hard earned muscle tone, increase fat storage, and limit your source of energy.

3. Incorporating calories- Right after you conclude your cleansing the calories go back into your body. But guess what, you would have already damaged your body. Your metabolism is now paralyzed and any new calories (from food) will be stored away quickly preparing for future starvation.

You see it's a protective mechanism. Back in the caveman days the seasons were dreadful. The winter came with brutal floods and the heat brought immense drought. Cavemen were left in the middle hunting, eating, and gathering as much as they can preparing themselves for seasonal starvation.

Cleansing is just that. You put your body in a bad situation. Your body automatically triggers its protective mechanism. Starvation comes into play and kills all hard work. And if you are already in bad shape to begin with... you get the idea.  Don't confuse cleansing with fat loss.
