Is snacking making you FAT??? I think it is!!!
Here's the deal.
Snacking is not for everyone. It especially isn't great for those wanting to drop FAT! If you are an athlete or are involved in serious strength training then yes you need the extra fuel/snacks to replenish muscle glycogen, etc... But snacking in general isn't for everyone and in fact is contributing to today's epidemic, BELLY FAT!
Snacking
When you eat food your pancreas releases insulin, think of insulin like a taxi cab which delivers nutrients (from food) to 1 of 3 places: muscle, liver, fat...
Insulin is secreted in 2 phases. The FIRST when food is consumed. Insulin is immediately released in a "stored-like compartment" outside on the pancreas. SECOND, insulin secretion continues to pour and PEAKS 2-3 hours post food consumption--- Now this is true with any size meal or quality of meal.
Why is this important!
Well the hormone Glucagon is your best friend, especially for weight loss. Glucagon ONLY gets released when insulin is low or virtually non-existatnt in the bloodstream.
So if you are continuously snacking throughout the day, as most people do, then insulin remains constant and high in the bloodstream... and glucagon never gets released. In other words, you will never (or have a VERY hard time) losing FAT!
* Glucagon is a hormone secreted by the pancreas and breaks down liver glycogen and stored body fat. This stored energy is what feeds your body OR is suppose to feed you in between meals so you don't starve.
Fat loss is about mastering hormone function not eating low calories or eating small frequent meals. If you are one who is struggling with fat loss then this could be your problem, SNACKING!
