The Deadlift: An Awesome Core Exercise
The DEADLIFT.
If you don't have this in your program than your are cheating yourself from getting results.
Let me give you a little history of the deadlift. It is one of the 3 main universal power lifts in the world. It became popular as a sport in the late 60's early 70's. The goal was simple, maximal lifts. The average power lifter looked thick, had tree trunks for legs and walked around with a back the width of a house. Not so attractive.
For those who are not familiar with the deadlift, know that it is a compound multi-joint movement that recruits heavy musculature. The lift starts from the ground- ascends into hip and body full extension- and ends eccentrically back at the ground.
The benefits to deadlifting are tremendous! Greater core strength, increased leg strength, improved upper stabilizer musculature, and an excellent metabolic stimulator started to gain popularity.
The deadlift soon spread into the sport world and later into recreational training. People started to see the results and understand why the deadlift is so important. Quadriceps, hips/glutes, stabilizers, core, lats, and rhomboids are all activated per single lift. Its uniqueness gained steam through the early 90's until the present day as a "must have exercise" in your training program.
Who does it target?
EVERYONE! How often do you hear people complaining of there lower back pain? A weak core? Or better yet horrible postural muscles? EVERYDAY!
The deadlift fits in with everyone and and should be supplemented as tool in every training program.
Look at your program, analyze it and make the proper adjustments. You won't be sorry.
